UFO History 101

To understand this phenomenon in the present, one must look back in the not-so-distant past. If you have received most of your UFO education via television you do NOT have an accurate picture of this enigma. Below is a brief history of this phenomenon.

Project Sign was established in late 1947 due to growing concerns over UFOs in the United States. This project was owned by the Air Force. The official conclusion, according to Project Sign, was that UFOs could not be confirmed or denied. However, this public statement appears to have been a PR stunt to get the public's attention off of the subject. In a formal letter to Brig. General Shulgen, Lt. General Nathan Twining states that the "phenomenon is real." (Ref. http://keyholepublishing.com/1947-9-23-TWINMEM1.JPG)

Even prior to the "Roswell Incident" UFOs were being observed all over the world, but especially in the American Southwest (Texas, New Mexico). One could speculate that these UFOs were doing recon over our defense facilities, especially those with atomic weapons (ref. 509th Bomb Group).  In order to fully grasp the significance of this era we need to look at the devastating effects of our weapons on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.

In 1946 the "ghost rockets" appeared in Sweden. Over 2,000 reports of these unexplained objects were documented. It was initially believed that these objects were of terrestrial origin, possibly German, but there was no official conclusion to support this. No rocket fragments were located.

Throughout the 20th century the UFO problem continued to grow. Debates have raged in the scientific community as to the relevance studying the phenomenon. Despite the 'low priority' given to the UFO problem by the skeptics, those same skeptics spend a good deal of time arguing with the UFOlogists. Unfortunately, the UFO debunkers never do their homework and the debate usually turns out to be nothing more than squabble.

Contrary to popular opinion there has been a great deal of scientific work on the UFO problem. To illustrate this effort we need look no further than to Paul R. Hill. Hill was a NACA/NASA engineer who had sightings of his own. He wrote a book entitled 'Unconventional Flying Objects.' In his book he explores UFO propulsion and the effects reported by witnesses.
